Help Embed
Embed performance.
What the ad embed costs your page: its size, the requests it makes for each ad, how it loads, and how it affects layout. Sizes were measured on September 25, 2026, from the script the Signal host serves.
| Measure | Size |
|---|---|
| Script as served, uncompressed | 10,945 bytes (about 10.9 KB), including code comments |
| Gzip compressed | 3,952 bytes (about 4 KB) |
| Brotli compressed, for reference | 3,304 bytes (about 3.3 KB) |
| Dependencies | None. Plain JavaScript, no libraries. |
| Browser cache | Served with Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable, so a browser can reuse it for up to a year. |
| Request | When |
|---|---|
| The embed script | Once per page. Repeat snippets on the same page reuse the same file, and later pages load it from the browser cache. |
| Ad request | One per slot, without cookies. It includes the width the slot has on the page, so a responsive slot gets a size that fits. A second request happens only when the returned banner is already showing in another slot on the page, to ask for a different one. |
| Banner image | One per ad, loaded lazily by the browser and cached for up to a year. |
| Loaded report | One small request when the banner is placed on the page. |
| Seen report | One small request, only if the ad was actually seen. |
| Click | Only when the visitor clicks: one visit to the Signal click redirect, which forwards to the advertiser. |
